Stand Up Republic Launches “Republicans for a New President” and announces the “Convention on Founding Principles”

Over the past three and a half years, Americans have been subjected to Donald Trump’s failed leadership, poor character, blatant corruption, and unrepentant lies. His presidency has been a relentless assault on truth, the Constitution and the rule of law. We cannot allow him four more years to continue the damage.

Putting our country on a better path, with a renewed focus on our founding principles, will require current and former Republicans of conscience to support new leadership in America. That’s why we’re excited to announce that Stand Up Republic, in partnership with Principles First, will be hosting a counter convention concurrent with the Republican National Convention this August.

This “Convention on Founding Principles” will be a stark contrast to Trump’s self-aggrandizing nomination show, putting principled conservatism at the forefront and offering America an alternative vision for Republican leadership. Participants will hear from speakers and leaders across the country, and delegates will vote on organizing principles and preferred candidates. And we want you to be a part of it.

The convention is an important part of SUR’s “Republicans for a New President” campaign, which is already at work in the key battleground states, mobilizing disaffected Republicans to set aside partisan interests in support of a new president, whether it be Joe Biden or another alternative to Trump.

We hope you will join this important movement to replace the president by signing our pledge, recording a personalized message, or sharing the news with your friends across the political spectrum. And of course, we hope to see you all at our convention this August to help put America back on the right path.

Lesson 4: Why conspiracy theories work. As complex conspiracy narratives like QAnon gain popularity, we too often dismiss their importance and broad appeal — and misunderstand why they resonate. Rather than evaluate them through the “true or not” perspective, it is important to understand that conspiracy theories have structural, motivational, and permission-granting characteristics that explain how they work so effectively.
